Girard the Mountain Dragon

The Authors Haunt is the site that hosts my fiction as well as my poetry. My latest short story was written for "The 2009 Abstract Anthology". The theme of the anthology was 'The Mountain' a story based not on words but on a picture of a mountain.

There were twelve submissions including mine and for the first time, the anthology will be available in the form of a pdf ebook. Click here for more information on either the ebook or the other submissions in this anthology.

Girard the Mountain Dragon

Dragons aren't real. Everybody knows that. It's just a pity they forgot to tell Girard, the Mountain Dragon, living safe in his cave high in the Uitna Mountains...

Chana Masala

I made Chana Masala tonight, and it was absolutely beautiful. Hubby didn't like it very much but I think he had already decided that he wouldn't like it before he even tasted it.

Chana Masala

The recipe is from Vegweb. After reading the reviews I added coconut milk and I also had some garam masala in the cupboard, so I added that in place of a little curry. I really do think I will make this again...it was that yummy.

I think I will aim at cooking 3 fully vegan meals a week, 3 which include meat (which I will eat something else that I have cooked especially for me or only some of the veges from that dish) and the other day is the day we just sort of graze and eat whatever. I think that is a fair compromise.

Vegan...thinking

A couple of months ago, I had some strange swelling in my left leg. I went to the doctor and he organised blood tests immediately. Seems I have an underactive thyroid gland. Which sounds more fun than it is., actually. The thing that almost knocked me off the chair, was when he said that I had 'dangerously high cholesterol'.

Since I have been a vegetarian for over 30 year, I was totally shocked. I was sent to the nurse who suggested that I cut down on cheese and chocolate, since those are the only things that I eat which could be contributing to my high cholesterol.

I came home thinking that veganism was looking pretty good so I started to investigate. I've not felt like eating much for the last few weeks, (even though I have gone up two dress sizes because of this horrid illness...grrr) I've started to get an appetite back.

A friend from the UK who is a vegan gave me a heap of links but until now, I haven't felt like doing much about it.

Now, I am starting to get hungry again...

okay...WOW!!!

I admit it...I'm shocked!!!

I've just updated my story site, Bevie's Bit of Happyness, did a quick count and to my complete and utter amazement found that I have over 40 poems (including 22 haiku and senryu and half a dozen limericks) and 9 short stories published!!!

Not bad considering I started writing fiction in June 2007 and poetry in October 2007.

My Favourite Doctor

Heads or Tails is a weekly meme hosted by Skittles.
This weeks theme is 'doctors' and we are encouraged to think outside the box.

This week I thought about my favourite doctor
.

Dr Meredith Rodney McKay from Stargate Atlantis

Doctor Meredith Rodney McKay is a fictional character in the TV series Stargate Atlantis, and is played by David Hewlett. His character originated in the parent series, Stargate SG-1, with his first appearance in the episode "48 Hours." Rodney is a brilliant scientist, with degrees in astrophysics and engineering. He is also Earth's leading expert on the Stargate and is currently the lead scientist on the Atlantis expedition.

Here is a clip that I found on youtube about my favourite doctor. Isn't he just gorgeous?

I can hear music

Simply Snickers is a weekly poetry prompt. The words that I needed for my poem were 'stand' and 'still'. I had already written a poem for this week...a ghazal and you can find it here. I thought it was a bit depressing so I wrote something happier...a haiku.

And to make it even happier, it is about my all time favourite music group. In fact, I reckon that they are like the Oil of Olay of music groups...ageless and timeless...well at least I think their music is.

I hear The Beach Boys
I have no choice but to dance
My heart can't stand still
